The establishment and maintenance of a Safety Management System supported by a Safety Culture environment in medical imaging and radiation therapy are essential requirements to ensure the safety of patients, the public and fellow colleagues and other staff members of the healthcare team.
The ISRRT supports radiographers and radiological technologists in this task bearing in mind that the establishment and maintenance of Safety Management Systems and Safety Culture is primarily a management responsibility. However, it is recognised that everyone employed in the imaging and therapy fields has a particular role to play to ensure that both safety and safety culture is maintained.
The ISRRT has provided an ‘ISRRT Safety Culture and General Safety Management Guide for Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Departments’ launched and published in September 2021, to assist in the promotion of Safety and Safety Culture for the Radiography Community.
