Ms Rita Eyer has been in the Radiography profession for over thirty years and has experience from every aspect of the profession- the front line, as a Clinical Instructor and as a Manager. She was the Radiology Clinical Instructor at the Misericordia General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for over thirteen years and, then, their Administrative Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Department for five years. Radiology, Computed Tomography, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Cardiology, and the EEG Departments all reported to the Administrative Director of Diagnostic Imaging. In 1995, she decided to move to the manager position of the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Salvation Army Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg where she remained until August of 2004. She is, once again, the Administrative Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the Misericordia Health Centre and now has the Manitoba Breast Screening Program as part of her portfolio but no longer EEG or Nuclear Medicine. She fills this position half time and does some consulting work with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Manitoba on her days off. This role involves conducting inspections of rural radiology departments in Manitoba to ensure that these departments are following national and provincial standards of practice. She has her Advanced Certification in Radiography, a Certificate in Adult Education from Red River College, and a Certificate in Hospital Management through the Canadian Hospital Association. Rita has served in almost every volunteer position of the Manitoba Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (M.A.M.R.T.), including President and Vice President. She has also served in many volunteer positions on the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (C.A.M.R.T.) including the National President, and Vice President, Chair of Strategic Planning, on the C.A.M.R.T. Board of Directors for several years, and the Manitoba representative on the Canadian Council on Education (C.O.E.). In that later volunteer position she was involved in the production of the CAMRT certification examination questions. Her raison d’etre is volunteerism and strives to lead by example. She is currently the Canadian representative on the International Society of Radiographers and Radiology Technologists (I.S.R.R.T.) which she considers an incredible honor and has thoroughly enjoyed meeting Council members from all over the world. As the Canadian Council Member to the ISRRT, Rita really enjoys seeing what is occurring in Radiology on a global perspective, especially in regards to a baccalaureate degree as entry to practice in so many nations. She sincerely hopes this becomes the expectation in Canada soon and that radiographers in Canada will achieve an Advanced Practice level.
