Connie Mitchel
Qualifications
M.A., R.T.(R)(CT), FASRT

A commitment to the radiologic science profession, her students and quality medical imaging exemplifies the 40-year career of Connie L. Mitchell, M.A., R.T.(R)(CT), FASRT.

In 1969 Connie entered the radiography program at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Upon graduation she took the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam and accepted her first job as a radiographer in fluoroscopy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In a short time, she advanced from fluoroscopy technologist to area fluoroscopy supervisor. When an opening arose for a clinical coordinator of the university’s radiography program, Connie applied and at age 41 went back to school to earn the prerequisite baccalaureate degree. In 1993 she became clinical coordinator. She earned her master’s degree in health education in 2000, and one year later she was named Radiography Program Director at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She also holds a position as Assistant Professor within the School of Allied Health Professions (SAHP), and received the 2010 Award for Outstanding Service to the Allied Health Professions.

Connie’s involvement with her professional organizations began at the state affiliate level, where she served on the board of directors of the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists. She first became involved in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists as a delegate, and in 2004 she was elected as secretary-treasurer on the ASRT Board of Directors. She was inspired to run for national office by others who had served. She wanted to grow her leadership skills and take part in the decision-making that set the path for the radiologic science profession. Connie went on to serve on the ASRT Board from 2004 to 2009, including terms as president and chairman. In recognition of her service to the association, the ASRT elevated Connie to Fellow in 2010.
