Sue Johnson is the Chair of UK Council of the Society of Radiographers and Past President. Her story in radiography began at the Derby School of Radiography, receiving the Diploma of the College of Radiographers in 1987. She has developed her career, remaining in Derby and including a period working jointly in the University. She is currently acting service manager for the Derby Breast Unit and site superintendent radiographer in main x-ray.
She was elected and accredited as a representative for the Society in 1994 and held the position until 2007. Sue became chair of the Midlands Regional Committee in May 2001 and was elected to UK Council in 2008. Throughout a period of almost 30 years of voluntary participation in the Society of Radiographers, Sue’s motivation has been entirely unselfish, driven by her desire to influence and have an impact on her profession and consequently on the quality of patient-care.
She won the Bryan Macey prize and went on to complete an MA in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at Keele .Her strong professional convictions are not in any way compromised by many years of representing and campaigning for fair treatment at work. Neither should anyone attempt to challenge her assertion that better patient care is the result of good industrial relations. Sue recently was invited to speak on this subject to the conference of the Australian Institute of Radiography. It seems appropriate that this consummate ambassador for radiography should be heard not only in Derby but on a world stage.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to radiography and to the Society and College of Radiographers Sue Johnson has been awarded the Fellowship of the College of Radiographers.
