The Society of Radiographers recently did a survey of its fraternity to find out who amongst us were willing to participate in a Caricom Medical Contingent to Haiti. We know that circumstances are very dire on the ground, even after almost two months has passed and medical attention is still necessary.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, the Honorable Jerry Narace (dated 29th January 2010), the Society sought to inform the Minister of this very admirable group who has answered positively to participate in such a contingent to go to Haiti as medical imaging professionals. At least twenty (20) Radiographers have expressed their willingness. Some of the Radiographers are not only experienced in Radiography, but either in Medical Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography (CT) or even Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
The Minister in his reply (dated 3rd February 2010) commended the members, and the Society, for their eagerness to provide support to Haiti. He has informed us that our expression of interest in such an initiative will be forwarded to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. We would like to thank the Minister for his acknowledgements and hope to continue to make not only Trinidad and Tobago a happier, healthier place but also the region which we are a part of.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sympathy for those who have been affected by the more recent 8.8 earthquake that has rocked the South American country of Chile.
