World Radiography Day Celebrations
On the 7th November 2009,Asia Royal Cardiac & Medical Care celebrates to mark the World Radiography Day. This is the first time World Radiography Day is observed in Myanmar. The occasion of World Radiography Day was attended by the Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Chief Medical Officer,Medical Officers, Radiographers from various hospital in Greater Yangon Area and Lecturers from University of Medical Technology. The Chief Nursing Superintendent and senior nursing staff were also attended. Dr.Khin Mg Swe,CMO, made the opening speech. He explained a brief account of the discovery of x-ray. He also emphasized that this discovery contributed a tremendous benefit to mankind and on the other hand all radiographers should aware of the radiation hazard. To oblige this year theme for World Radiography Day, some effort should be exercised to reduce the radiation dose to the patients especially pediatric patients and the women of child bearing age.
Then, the message from the President if ISRRT was read by U Khin Maung Tin,Chief Radiographer of ARCMC.
Professor Dr. Tint Lwin,BSc,MBBS,MD,FRCP(C) ,FRCR(Eng),Diplomate,American Board of Radiology,Member of American College of Radiology, gave a talk on "Optimal Technique in Imaging.
Prof.Tint Lwin stressed that radiographers have some obligation to improve the quality of patient care. He also pointed out that Radiographer is an important person taking care of patients from behind the door. He gave his remark that the radiographers are Heroes in imaging. After his excellent lecture, U Sithu Aung,Executive Engineer and Marketing Manager of Meditech (Siemens) Co.,Ltd. delivered a lecture on "Recent Advances in Medical Imaging"
In conclusion, Dr.Daw Htwe Sein, ACMO, offered a vote of thanks to the lectures and all participants.
This commemorative occasion was sponsored by Australasia Marketing Trade and Technology (AMTT) Co., and Meditech (Siemens) Co.
World Radiography Day marks the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays in 1895. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of radiographic imaging and therapy, which play a crucial role in the diagnosis and the treatment of patients and, most importantly, ensuring radiation is kept to the minimum required, hence improving the quality of patient care.
The 8th of November will be celebrated by radiographers worldwide as World Radiography Day to commemorate Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen’s discovery. On this day in 1895, Professor Roentgen was working with cathode rays using evacuated glass bulbs. He noted that when a current passed across the bulb, a barium platino-cyanide screen fluoresced and furthermore he noted the effect of the phenomenon on photographic plates. He termed this new discovery ‘X-Rays’. He further asserted that, with the use of these ‘X-Rays’ he was able to see through the body. Within three months of Roentgen’s discovery, radiographs were generated in major cities.
The International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) would like to encourage radiographers all over the world to celebrate this great discovery. World Radiography Day is an annual international initiative intended to raise awareness of, and to stimulate an interest in, the profession of radiography. In addition it is aimed at highlighting the importance of radiography and the indispensable function it plays in the health care environment. Participation in this celebration could include exhibitions/open days and presentations on radiography as a career to the public and to potential students and also to other health professionals. The day may be used as an oppurtunity to sensitize, inform, and educate the public about radiography as well as what radiographers actually do.
The theme adopted by the ISRRT for the 2009 World Radiography Day celebration is:
‘Radiographers Care About YOUR Protection’.
The ISRRT has pledged its support to the ‘Image Gently’ campaign. The goal of this campaign is ‘to change practice by increasing awareness of the opportunities to lower radiation dose in the imaging of children’.
The ISRRT encourages radiographers that while they are \enhancing the theme of ‘Radiographers care about YOUR protection’ that they also incorporate the ‘Image Gently’ goal in their programs to celebrate 2009 World Radiography day .
Dear Colleagues & friends,
Warm greetings from the society of innovative technologists in medicine!
The World Radiography Day (WRD) is celebrated all over the world by the Radiographic community as an icon day to make realize the value of Radiography and related technologies to public, other health professionals and indeed, ourselves. You can compare it with Nurses Day or Teachers Day celebrations. The WRD is celebrated on Nov. 8; the Anniversary day of the invention of X-rays took place. In other countries like USA, UK, or Australia this day is celebrated by various programmes held by our community. Unfortunately, in our country no organization has come up to promote this event as an icon day.
As you aware that the programmes organized by ISRT during the WRD in the last two years were a grand success in all its meaning. We celebrated World Radiography Day 2007 and 2008 with various programmes like Continuing Medical Education Programmes (CME), Exhibition for Public and Radiation awareness Survey.
This year, ISRT is planning to popularize the WRD celebration. For that, we have put forward a plan in which every person & institution can participate at level which suits them best!
So, please come forward to participate in a way you like, to boost the esteem of our community. We are ready to offer you any possible support in this regard.
Please go through the Modes operands and support services by ISRT attached herewith.
Set your hands with the innovative society and be a member of the team ISRT!
